PEE THE UNITED PRKSS ASSOCIATION.. (BY TELEGRAPH.) DUWEDIW, APEIL 26. Mr "W. Teschemaker, of Maheno, has imported one merino ram and 10 ewes, of considerable value, from the flocks of Messrs Gibson, Tasmania. Mr Bryce has made a strong speech at New Plymouth, defending the action of the Government in extending the amnesty to Te Kooti. Referring to the recentlypublished history of New Zealand, in which he (Bryce) is described as a murderer of women and children, he terms the author a liar, a slanderer, and a coward.
The N.Z. Shipping Co. have fixed on Port Chalmers as the final port of departure for their big steamer, the lonic, which will sail for London during June. Cable message this morning states that the Prince of Wales has made a personal inspection of the lonic, which is a magnificient steamer, ' and has expressed himself highly pleased with her accommodation, etc. She is fitted with refrigerating apparatus. Massey and his wife were charged at the Supreme Court, Invercargill, yesterday, with the larcency of three debentures of £IOO each, the property of the Dunedin Corporation. The case is expected to conclude this evening, and if conviction is obtained it is unlikely that any but the one indictment will be proceeded with.
