. 'The grading returns for hemp, tow, stripper tow and stripper slips for the month of October have been issued as follows by the Department of Agriculture: — PORTS. G.F. H.F. L.F. C. Auckland Wellington 90 528 -541 46 Picton 84 18 —2 Blenheim Bluff Ten bales at Auckland, 121 at Wellington and 161 at the Bluff were rejected. The number of . bales in each grade was as follows, the number for the corresponding period last year being given in parenthesis: Good Fair 174 (8); High Fair 630 (559); Low Fair.6Bs (281); Common 200' (413); Rejected 292 (131); Condemned nil (12); a total of 1981 bales as against 1404 bales graded the same period last year, an increase of 577 bales. Tlie number of bales graded at each port was as follows: Auckland' 146; Wellington 1326; Picton 104; Blenheim 36; Bluff 369. The following shows the detailed particulars of the tow graded: — PORTS. Ist. 2nd. 3rd. Auckland > ■ — 16 Wellington 5 ._ 83 71 Picton 31 8 Bluff Seven bales at Wellington were condemned. The following shows the number of bales in each grade, the number for the corresponding period last year being given in parenthesis: Ist Grfido 36 (240) ; 2nd Grade 125 (63); 3rd grade 197 (35); condemned 7 (2); a total of 365 bales as against 340 bales graded the same perod last year, an increase of 25 balesN
The number of bales graded at each port was: Auckland 18; Wellington 166; Picton 39; Bluff 142. There was no return for stripper tow and stripper slips for the month.
