FOXTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING.

The monthly meeting of the Foxton Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers last evening. Reports were read and dealt with as follows: — ROAD FOREMAN’S REPORT.

• The road foreman (Mr A. G. Huntley) reported as follows: — During-the month the road staff has been engaged on the following works: Repairing and top-dressing the road leading' to the baths; topdressing the paths around the Council Chambers; patching the bitumen surface of Russell, Union, Park and Victoria Sts., and Avenue Rd., patching ruts in metalled roads in Purcell, Cook and Thvnne Sts., mixing asphalt, grading Avenue and Moutoa Roads, grubbing noxious weeds in Spring, Victoria and Russell 'Sts., and- the Council section at the corner of Johnston and Union Sts; mowing grass in Clyde St., and on the reserve plots, and attending to general maintenance. The formation of Park S't, footpath was extended from Jenks St. to Victoria Park entrance and if is proposed to complete this with asphalt. as soon as material is sufficiently matured. The grass at the cemetery will be cut during the. coming month. —Adopted.

WATERWORKS FOREMAN’S REPORT.

The Waterworks Foreman (Mr. W. Neville) reported as follows: — During the month protection work has been carried out on the river bank and noxious weeds cleared within the borough. During the month 1,750,000 gallons of water was pumped, the _ maximum current used being 32' amps.— Adopted.

GENERAL.

The Manawatu Automobile Association wrote asking the Council to furnish particulars in connection, with the exact nature of the work required to improve the sharp bend on the southern boundary of the Borough. —Held over pending conference with the Highways Board. The Association also intended that it Was giving attention to sign posting in the borough. —Received. N.Z. Woolpack and Textiles, Ltd., wrote drawing attention to the fact that the mill was paying 8/4 per 1000 cubic feet for gas, and asking for a reduction. It was pointed out that the mill had been a large consumer of gas during the past year and would require even more as it was anticipated to produce' five times more woolpacks during the 1935 season than last season.

It was decided that the following additions, to the present scale of discount on gas accounts be made, to take effect in respect of all gas consumed as from the Ist December, 1934: — ■ 10,000 c.ft. per month and over, discount 7d per 100 c.ft.; 30,000 c.ft. and over, discount 8d pter 100 c.ft.; 75,000 c.ft. per month and over 9d per 100 c.ft.
