CHEAPER CIGARETTES

LOWER PRICER TO OPERATE

IN NOVEMBER

A large-scale adjustment of cigarette prices, which will result in lower rates to the public and a more reasonable profit to retailers, is at present being arranged by the principal cigarette manufacturers and agents in New Zealand. The new prices will come into operation on November 1, when the delayed reductions in duty on cigarettes under the revised Customs tariff become effective. Under the new schedule, which is now being issued, retail prices will range from. 5d to Sd a packet of 10, as against fid to 9d formerly. The greater number will sell at fid a packet, while two lines will retail at sd. Tobacco prices will be affected only to a minor extent.
