KOVEL PUBLICITY SCHEME

HONEYMOON COUPLES TO BE INVITED TO WiHANGARET.

A suggestion that honeymoon couples be invited to spend the Christmas holidays in Whangarei and that free entertainment facilities be provided for them was made at a meeting of the Whangarei Chamber of Commerce on Friday evening. Mr. J. Burfoot, who introduced the idea, said that Gretna Green and Reno were known the world over as the places where marriage was easy and divorce simple. He asked/ why should not Whangarei be known as the honeymoon holiday resort. The suggestion was that there should be set up a honeymoon committee and that honeymooners lie invited to spend, their holiday in Whangarei. On arrival they would go to this committee and receive a card entitling them to: —Free admission to any picture theatre or dance; free membership of any sports body; free bus ride.

The honeymoon committee, it was suggested, would organise a sei-ies of excursions to places of interest. In addition, it would offer a prize of, say £5, to the youngest couple to visit Whangarei during the specified time, and l £5 to the oldest couple. It was decided, on the motion of Mr Burfoot, that the scheme he discussed by the publicity committee.
