Cleansing a Church.
At the Cathedral of Notre Dame lately, there was a solemn service of reparation for the profanation committed in the church on November 10, 1798, when the mob invaded the edifice, broke open the coffers containing the relics of the Saints, and made a woman who represented the Goddess of Reason, sit on the altar. The ceremony consisted in a procession and the reading from the pulpit an apology. A similar service was performed at the Church of St. Girmain des Presearum.
