Foxton School Committee.
The first meeting of the School Committee was held at Mr Ray's office on Saturday last at seven in evening. Present— Messrs W. G. Rohinson, B. Spelman, J.. T. Ray, W. Little, and J. Walsh. A resolution was passed electing Mr E. S. Thynne as Chairman of the Committee. In the absence of the Chairman Mr Little was then voted to the chair. A telegram was read from the Education Board stating that the Chairman suggested that the school: should remain closed if diphtheria was as prevalent as reported. Since the receipt "of the telegram another case of diphtheria had oo- ' curred, and it was reported that there was a case close to the school grounds. The question of closing the schoo] was discussed in all its bearings, and eventually Mr Walsh proposed, .and. Mr Little seconded,! the following resolution, which was carrtediunajQffiiougly r^-Tbat in consequence of the further spread of diphtheria the school be closed for the next fortnight. It was reported that the school desks and seats were in urgent need of repair, and that Mr Gerbes had offered to do the whole of the repairs for £8. The following further resolutions were then passed : — That the Chairman and Mr Robinson be the Visiting Committee until the next monthly meeting. That the meetings of the Committee be held on the first Thursday in each month at Mr Bay's at il o'clock a.m. " -
