Foxton Borough Council.

The usual monthly meeting of the above Council was held at the Library buildings yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Present — The Mayor (Cr. Nye), Crs McMillan, Austin, Startup, Ahem, Williams and Stansell. • Before theiminttieg were passed Cr tWiflfeWisßerteCN^t'some of the business done was informal, and he wished to have his protest registered. Cr Williams objected to the three minutes being confirmed at once, and it was suggested that they be put separately. the 6th day of June, to strike a general rate of fifteen pence in the pound sterling for the year commencing on the Ist of April, 1892, and ending the 31st March, 1898, upon the rateable value of all properties within the Foxton Borough Council district under " The Rating Act, 187 G." Such rate to become due and payable on the 7th day of June, 1892, at the office of the Foxton Borough Council, where the ratebook is now open for inspection. The Mayor mentioned that owing to ill-health he would have, after next Thursday's meeting, to resign big position on the Charitable Aid Board. It was not from anything else but from failing health that he felt compelled to take this step/ He mentioned the circulars received from the hospital board, and hoped that the Councillors would make an effort to contribute a fair share. Tenders for painting the lamp-posts were opened. A. Webb Is 9d each, F. E. Jenks 2s -Id each. Cr. Startup proposed, and Cr. Austin seconded — That the tender of A. Webb bo accepted for painting - lamps at Is 9d a lamp. , Cr; McMillan desired to draw attention to the way the librarian kept the library, as the books were all mixed up. and papers were not filed.
