The Races.

♦ To-morrow the Autumn Hack Meeting of the Foxton Eacing Club will be held. Given a fine day visitors should thoroughly enjoy themselves, as the Club has made every effort to enable them to do so. The course is as good as the past dry weather has allowed, but though a little heavy in places, the ground is not hard, and horses will sustain no hurt by their spin. The acceptances are very good, eleven for the Flying, seven for the Hurdles, eight for the Autumn Handicap, and ten for the Scurry. We may say that nearly every horse that has accepted will be a starter, therefore there will be most interesting fields. The Ladies Bracelet, presented by Mrs Stansell, brought out twenty nominations, but as weights and acceptances are not known till tomorrow we are unable to say how many will start, but we can confidently look forward to this race produoing the largest field for the starter to manage. The hon. secretary, Mr Eussell, makes this his last day of duty, having shifted his residence elsewhere. It is extremely satisfactory to know that his efforts to secure a successful meeting have been so fortunate, but those who have met Mr Russell in his position of secretary to the popular Racing Club will feel a regret that possibly next meeting will see his place filled by another. On the other hand there is no doubt but that the Club officials and visitors will vie with one another to make this parting meeting go off with eclat, if only as a compliment to the secretary. We much regret to think Mr Russell's severance with the district is no nigh, and trust his efforts to forward the amusement of others will be as well appreciated elsewhere as they are by the Club and district here. We have dwelt upon this subject as it is one that forces itself upon every one's attention on such an occasion, and we are sure the many friends will like to be reminded so that they may have an opportunity of expressing their good wishes to the secretary on race day. The leavetaking of Mr Russell, apart from his position as secretary, will take another form a little later on. Mr Border has secured the publican's booth, 30 that visitors will know that they will be well cared for. Mr Walls has the refreshment booth, where, last races he secured a name for himself. The Foxton Brass Band will play a very good selection of pieces, and they are worth going to hear.
