The University Boat Race.
The annual eight-oaxcd boat raoe jetween Oxford and Cambridge Universities was rowed over the usual 3ourse on the Thames from Putney 50 Mortlake on Saturday. Oxford winning the toss selected she Middlesex side of the river. The Cambridge crew, who were favourites, got the worst of the start, but by the time Craven Cottage steps were reached they had made up their Lost ground, and were slightly leading their opponents. Between this point and Hammersmith Bridge Oxford forged gradually ahead and shot the bridge with three-quarters of a length to the good, increasing their lead until they had an advantage of two and a quarter lengths on pagsing under the Barnes railway bridge. Here the Cambridge stroke called on bis men, and a brave spurt had the effect of reducing the distance between the two boats to one and a half lengths, by which Oxford won. The time, which was l9min 21sec, is over two minutes faster than the * time recorded last year. Oxford beat the reoord time at every point throughout the course.— Press Association.
