AN OVATION AT CAPETOWN

General Smuts received an ovation at the City Hall when he was presented with an address bearing 25,000 signatures, of citizens, . expressive of confidence' and appreciation of his fat'-rvices to South Africa and the Empi re.
General Smuts, replying, said that the present political grouping could not last. The co-operation of all moderate elements was necessary. The time, perhaps, was not far distant when there would be a possible appeal to the people to secure a party on strong, sane, and moderate lines. Those who talked .Republics failed to realise, that South Africa had all the liberty, freedom, and independence she could dosire. :
