V TARANAKI COMPLAINTS
[from our cop.respom»ent.] WELLINGTON, July 30. Tho Minister in Charge of the Board of Trade was urged by the Member, for Taranaki (Mr S. (*• Smith) that a moie; liberal allocation of cement should Be made to his province owing to the serious need for more houses right through the di&tiict. Six weeks ago 1000 tons were landed at New Plymouth, and only 160 tons bad come through Port Patea, though the committee get up to secure details* of cement requirements quickly • received applications for 6000 tons. . Mr R. Masters .(Stratford) asked tho. Minister to> idok into the allocation of the cement output from the Milburn Works, which ought to be made more equitable. It seemed to be conserved for Otago and Southland, leaving the supply for the rest of the Dominion to be provided by _he Golden Bay and Auckland works. Tho Hon. Mr Lee replied that he could not admit, justification of the suggestion that there had been an mequitable distribution. He would like to be supplied with, facts'supporting such a suggestion. .As to Mr Smith's question no promised, to kok into tlie allocations.
