CHINESE EGGS
FLOODING THE DOMINION
GOVERNMENT ASKED TO
INVESTIGATE.
[Press Association.]
WELLINGTON, April 25. At the Poultry Conference to-day one of the delegates strongly advocated that the Government be asked to investigate the quality of the liquid yolks now arriving in the Dominion from Asiatic countries. He said that the birds were practically scavengers, living in the gutters of Chinese streets. Their eggs cost twopence a dozen in China, and were imported here in nnshelled form and.used by &ome bakers. Another speaker said that some three million Chinese eggs were arriving in New Zealand during the next week or ;two, and it was stated that their importation was due to the fact that New Zealand could not produce sufficient eggs. Eventually it was decided to make representations to the Government regarding Chinese eggs.
