Some curious correspondence has been published in relation to the fund called the French relief fund, which raised £140.000 for the relief of civil victims of the war in Franco by an organised French "flag day" on July 14fch.

The letters show that' Sir J. A. Simon, Mr Churchill, Mr Lloyd George, Lord Crewe, Mr Chamberlain, Mr Bonar Law, and Lord1 Kitchener removed their names from the" patrons' list. f "Ihe police have since, notified the

British newspapers that it is undesirable to advertise the fund's appeals.
