CLUB FORMED LOCALLY

The-effort made last nighft to develop interest in the sport of coursing in this district did nosb lack in support, and the inaugural meeting held in the Empire Hotel was well-attend-ed. Mr J. Draper was voted to the chair. Mr T. S. Nightingale, the convener, explained that the facit tfoat he had secured a, membership of 54, all of whom promised to subscribe £1 each, indicated that there was a keen desire to form a local club, and he saw no reason whatever why the sport should not be revived and'a keen interest developer

On the moition of Messrs Nightingale and ;G. Martin the desirability of forming a iclub, under the name of the Marlborough Coursing Club, was affirmed:,' and the following officers were ejected:—Patrons, Messrs R. McCallum, M.P.,' and-W: Pollard; president; Mr J. J. Corrjr; vice-presi-dents, Messrs T. Keating, H..J. Kirkwood^N./C Pen-in v A. Leckie, Captain Falconer, W. Hodson, J. Draper, and E. Hurcomb; general committee,. Messrs W. Hodson, G. Martin, W. Taylor, A. C. Elliott, C. Margin, E. Gear, I. Wintringham, L. Homes, R. GiffordV J. H. Priddle, and F. E. Rofe; secretai-y, Mr A. Draper; as-sistant-secretary, Mr T. S. Nightingale; treasurer, Mr J. Draper; ground committee, Messrs W. Hodson, W. Taylor, N!. Wanden, and, J. Draper. The secretary was instructed to apply to Mr Sumpter, secretary of the New Zealand Coursing Association, for a set of rules for the club, and also to> bring about affiliation with the New Zealand parental body. It was agreed ibo make inquiries regarding the purchase",of hares from Oamaru, and tha,t members" tickets for the 1914 season be issued on payment of a subscription of £1 per member.

Preliminary arrangements .having been made, the meeting adjourned.
