The action A. R. Stedman, steward of the Working Men's Club, Blenheim, against John Hyndman, engineer, Blenheim, for alleged slander in connection with the alleged improper conduct of the steward in managing the Club, was set down for hearing this afternoon. The case will be heard on Wednesday, June Bth, before Sir Robert Stout, Chief Justice, and Messrs,- McNa,h,,and McCallum will represent the plaintiff and defendant respectively. A Dannevirko telegram states that a man named Chas. Baker was fined £10 and £5 costs in- the Magistrate's Court this morning for betting on a sports ground at Wallingford on last.
