A rumour was current in town last night and this morning that a wrongly-addressed chest containing upwards of £1000 in sovereigns had been forwarded to the McKenzie Carrying Company, and had been lying there for some days. This led to inquiries being instituted by an Express representative, in order to ascertain the authenticity of the rumour; but it was found that it was merely a hoax, and in place of a chest of gold it was an ordinary case containing certain kinds of merchandise.
