WAIRAU ROAD BOARD.
The Wairau Road Board met this morning, when there were present: — Messrs H. Hammond (chairman), C. G. Teschemaker-Shute, W. Adams, and G. Boyce. • INSPECTOR'S REPORT. The Inspector reported that a 9inch arid a 6-inch culvert was necessary on the new road Through Mr Maher's property at Onamalutu. The Wrekin, Maher's, and Richardson's roads required metalling. It was decided that the metalling question be held in abeyance, and that the. culverts recommended by the Inspector be inserted. BARTLETT'S CREEK ROAD. The Secretary was instructed to inquire of the Roads Department's engineer as to whether the £105 granted for Bartlett's Creek road could not be spent to better advantage than on the road leading to-the bush, and also to ask him to confer with the Board's Inspector on the matter. AVON BRIDGE TIMBER. It was resolved that the old timber taken from the Avon bridge be sold for £2. ARMCHAIR CREEK CUTTING; The Inspector was authorised to repair the cutting opposite the Armchair Creek cutting, the cost not to exceed £12. A DEPUTATION. Mr R. Corbett waited, upon, the Board in connection with the encroachment of the "Wairau River at The Narrows, and offered to do the protective works with willows conditionally upon the Board's paying him a reasonable price fpr the work at the end of twelve months, providing that the work done had proved to be lof a permanent character. This offer was accepted, and Mr Corbett was asked to keep a careful account of all moneys expended on the work. BIRCH RIVER BRIDGE. The question of a site for the erection of a bridge over the Birch River was" held over pending a report from Mr Sharp, the Roads Department's engineer. 'C TENDERS. . Two tenders were received for the Leatham formation contract, and that of Mr T. O'Connor, of £54, was acI cepted. ■ ' . | THE GENERAL RATE. It was decided that a general rate of Id in the £ be struck for the ensuing year. PINE VALLEY FORD. The Inspector was instructed to spend £3 on flagging the Pine Valley ford, and also removing some of the largest stones. THE BOARD'S MEETINGS. • It was resolved that during the months of July, August and September the Board's meetings be held at 11 a.m. instead of at 10.30 a.m. FINAL NOTICE. The Secretary was instructed to advise Messrs McCallum and Mills that unless they completed the matter in connection with the exchange of roads with Mr Adams and the conveyance of the road to the Avon bridge by next meeting of the Board, the Board would be reluctantly compelled to get it attended to elsewhere. The Board then rose.
