I . Monday. I Things are beginning to quieten down up this way; everybody is mak- | ing a start to work again. The Pelorus Athletic Sports Club had a fair attendance at their sports meeting on Monday. Although the nominations were very poor the takings at the gate were as good as they have been for years, and amounted to £16 Is. At the dance in the evening £6 15s was taken at the door. Altogether the sports have been a greater success than last year. The Committee seem quite satisfied, and as long as things progress as they are the Committee will be able to carry on their sports for a few years yet; in fact for a lifetime.

I hear that some very* strong lan*, guage was uaed to the Secretary in his tent by one of the competitors in the single-handed saw. -This conduct should not be tolerated by the, unions ,■> as the secretaries of these 'gatherings try to do their best for their clubs and the public. Although they are hon. secretaries there is very little thanks for their work, even though they do a fair'share of it just to cater for the public's amusement or pas-' time.
