. Monday. The close of "the old year was disturbed by very boisterous weather, which culminated in a severe storm on Thursday. The elements, however, soon subsided, and the New Year -was ushered in in clear, bright weather.
On Thursday mornings a party of ladies left Havelock in :Pratt's launch fox- Portage, the launch having been engagedj to bring some. Havelock men from Pictori, who were to join the boat at Portage. However, the weather became too rough, and tb,e party was landed at Double Bay, in Kenepuru Sound, to await the return of the launch from Portage. Unfortunately the boat broke down, and the Picton party engaged Mr Borck's launch. Surinising , that something Jfead happened to Pritt, they kept a keen look-out, and discovered^ the party of ladies sitting on the'^p^rj trading roots 0 ifcrees, presenting rather a woeful pictjiie; but the scene was changed to smiles and cheerswhen the rescue party was sighted. The ladies vwere glad to get home, as they,were very wet. . The Rev. J. R. Burgin also had a strenuous night at Nikau Bay. His little boat dragged her anchors, and [the rev gentleniaji was put to great trouble in watching her all through the (Storniy'night,: A dance was held in aid of the local band on Friday evening. Dancing was kept up.till midnight, and a jolly time was spent by those present.
