PERSONAL.

Mr H. W. Northcroft, S.M., who resigned from the Bench at the end of last year was presented by the police in his district with a solid silver salver as a- token of the high esteem in which they hold him. Mr Northcroft is a brother of Mr E. Northcroft, Chief Postmaster in Blenheim.

Dr W. H. Pettit, a son of Mr T. lettit, of Nelson, house surgeon at the Dunedin Hospital, has received leave of absence from that institution, and will join H.M.S. Pioneer as medical officer during her cruise to Australia, visiting Sydney, Hobart and Melbourne. Dr Pettit will return to Dunedin on January 17th.
