WELLINGTON WOOL SALES

LEVIN AND CO.'S REPORT

Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd., report as follows regarding the wool sale in Wellington at date of January 3 : —Our catalogue comprised 4300 bales, which we offered to a large attendance of buyers, the sale proving to be-tiie best of the season. Although the wool offering was of a coarser and heavier quality than at the previous sales, there were strong orders in the market for -fins grade, and Bradford buyers operated freely. Coarse, medium and inferior crossbred advanced id to Id. Piecas, locks, and scouring lots sold at \ery high rates. Lambs went up to 11-Jd.'

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, report that the third wool sale of the season was held to-day, when the associated brokers offered catalogues comprising about 20,00(5 bales, of which our proportion was some 3220 bales. There was a bigger attendance of buyers than usual, and competition from all quarters was good.; , We estimate prices |d to §dper:lb better for coarse wools arid £d to fd per 1b higher for skirtings, fine wools being on a par with December rates. Continental buyers were keen after lambs, and we obtained 12fd for one line of 16 bales Romney cross lambs grown by-Mr J. R. McLennan, of P^merston North district. '" " •-•-•■■-••'■■■■■»■■

Dalgety and Company, Limited, have received telegraphic advice from their Wellington house regard-! ing the wool sale held there -yester-! day which states that the sale was good, with good competition, and increased attendance of buyers. Prices for fleece wool were on a par with last sale, but bellies and pieces showed an advance of £d. The condition of' the wool was much heavier than at last sale.
