Burnham is famous for its efforts to do as much for itself as possible, and a splendid example of this independence was. given last week (states the Lyttelton Times). The cook of the institution having resigned, the problem of • supplying the meals for the institution and particularly the lunehebiivfor the visitors to the sports, ; was a serious one. But a boy volunteered to rescue the management irom its dilemma, and with the assistance of five other boys, he did all the cooking. The meals were decidedly creditable to the lads, who did not hesitate to place on the tables a very tempting cake.
