MELBOURNE, May 1. . The Crown's expert who made an examination of the brakes of the Hendigo train found thatrtfte^brake of the second engine was defective and failed to grip, while the brakes of the mail-van of one, carriage were utterly ■useless:: The 'brake of the first engine ■was effective, but an obstruction was found in the "hose connection between it and the tender. •
, The expert remarks that as an express train it was a disgrace to the Toad. •
