SHIPS
PARKER BEATEN BY RICE
[press association.] (Received March 24, 4.41 p.m.)
SYDNEY, March 24
The tennis tournament concluded yesterday in fine weather, the finals of the championships attracting a large attendance. ,
Parker's success in the earlier stages of the New South "Wales singles championship left him to fight out the final with Horace Rice, of New South Wales. A splendid struggle resulted in the New South Welshman's defeating the ex-New Zealander, the scoring being 6-4, 6-3, 3-6, 5-7, 6-1.
Rice secured the first two sets; Parker placed the next two to his credit, and in the final tussle Rice carried all before him.
Rice played with great judgment and power, keeping his attack centred on Parker's forehand.
Parker's game was characterised by fine resoui-cefulness and science, but he was somewhat lacking in his usual dash towards the close.
In the ladies' singles championship Miss Pay ten, the holder, beat Miss D. Gordon, 6-2, 6-0.
In the gentlemen's doubles championship Wright and Jones defeated Pockley and Rice, 6-2, 6-3, 4-6, 6 all.
