The Supply Bill, the first legislative enactment of the Commonwealth Parliament, has received Lord Hopetoim's

assent

In the Senate a petition from Tasmania was presented against any alteration of the law with regard to sweep-. It declu-ed that if present arrangements were,altered Tasmania would lose £20,000, and tho Commonwealth £50,000 of revenue annually.

Mr Findiay intends to contest the vacant seat in tho Assembly for East Melbourne.
