RELIGIOUS INSTRUCTION IN STATE SCHOOLS.
♦ [united press association.] Dunedin, Augus* 15. A conference attended by representatives of the Anglican, Presbyterian, Wesleyan, Congregational, Baptist, and Bible Christian demonstrations was held to consider the deeirability of co-operating to seoura an. amendment of the Education Aot in the direction of religious instruction in school*. In the discussion some diversity of opinion was manifested, but eventually by 17 to 3 it waa resolved that tbe meeting take such measures aa may hereafter be agreed upon to assimilate the New Zealand Eduoation Act to the English Act IS7O, in the clauses that relate to religious instruction. It waa. also decided to hold a publio meeting.
