A THIEF'S CONFESSION.
• « EXTENSIVE ROBBERIES. [UNITED PREBS ASSOCIATION.] Received July 26, 1 a.m. Brussels, July 25. Adam Wirth, a noted thief, at present undergoing a term of imprisonment m the Louvain gaol, has confessed to the theft of the Duobess of Devonshire picture. Wirtb is now believed to have been concerned m the late Hatton Gardens and Post Office robberies m London, and is also credited with having committed many audacious Bank, jewellery and other robberies on the Continent, m America and at Capetown, which have baffled the efforts of the police to bring the offender to justice. The picture was stolen for the sake of ransom, the money for which, however, the thief was unable to claim. The whereabouts of the piolure is unknown.
