PUBLIC TRUST COMMISSION.

The Public Trust Commission finding it impossible to get the necessary returns for the purposes of their report m time have applied again for an extension of the term, and tho Government consented to grant another fortnight from to-morrow. Some 35 extra clerks have been employed for two weeks m the preparation of these returns. • , June 10. It is stated that it is improbable that Mr Hamerton, Commissioner of Public Trust, will, owing to ill health, be unable to resume his official duties even at the expiry of his present term of leave. In which case. Parliament will be asked to* provide a retiring allowance. The Government m this matter* ara believed to be acting after consultation, and with the concurrence of the Koyal Commission. ' ; - Wellington, June 10. Mr Haraerton has only been granted one month's leave of absence. J. K. Warburton, accountant m the Post and. Telegraph Department will temporarily act as deputy Public Trustee, the appointment haying been made by the Government under the Act of 1872.
