; - *- ANNUAL REPORT OF SOCIETY. The annual meeting of the Mataura Horticultural and •♦lndustrial Kshi-bit Society vfill -be held in the Coronation Hall on Wednesday, July 8, at 8 p.m.. when the following'annual report and ibalance-sjieet will be submitted In presenting the 23rd annual . report andi balance-sheet the committee has pleasure in starting that the show held on February IS of this year was a decided success,' 1219 entries being received s as -against 1199 for the previous sIkJ-w. Unfortunately the date of the show {clashed with the.Gore schools' picnic, and the society had to withdraw the railway guarantee for the special train, as| it was- thought that ,:i lost would result. The door takings sho.wed a decrease of £8 4s 6d, but otherwise the receipts were in excess of those of the previous year. The society has a paid-up membership of 86, the revenue from this source amounting t(, £l2 18o.! The year was started on July 1, 1913, with a credit balance of £57,18s lid. The cash prizes awarded amounted to £55 8s 6d and the value of prrees- to £32 is, making a totaS value of', prizes awarded of £B7 9s 6d for the 1914 show. During the year £39s 10s was? paid to Mr Scott, of Gore, for electrical installation, and the balalice at credit in' the Bank o) - New Zealand at June 30, 1914, was £57 8s 4d. The hall was let on 89 orcasion r during the year. Owing fo his transfer to the North Island the society lost the valuable, of Mr J. C. Evison, who- was one of the most enthusiastic supporters of -the society at Mataura. The Executive -Coil.-mittee appointed Mr Evison an honorary life member and- donated £3 3s to the pubhe fund raised to give him a fitting send-pff:as a slight token of the society Vappreciation of his work in its interests. In conclusion the .committee thanks the_ residents of the town and outlying districts for their p;enerous support, the canvassers' who .so ably fulfilled their -mission, Mr Win-w for his services as auditor, and all those ladies and.gentlemen who 30 unselfishly gave their services on' entry day and show day.
