BOARD OF EDUCATION.

The monthly meeting of the Sou 4 .!: land Board of Education, held yestoday, was attended by Messrs John Fiisher (chairman), G. Amos, H. E. Niven, J. Mac Gibbon, D. Gilchrist, W. N. Stirling, and A,. Lo.wrie. Mr H. A. Archdall was granted leave of absence. Mr T. MacGiLlbon wrote thanking the Hoard for its re-appointment of him as its delegate on the University Council. EXECUTIVE'S IiKL'ORT. The. Executive Committee recommenced that E. J. Kelly be appointed sole, teacher at East Chatton, that Miss L<l. M. V oung be .appointed temporary sole teacher at Lojjgridgc and Miss lCliKabelh Steel to a'similar position at Pitipua. The resignation of Miss Bessie Eraser rft Balfour had been accepted. The committee also reemmended that tho application for.half cost fencing up to i 5 b<? granted at Sandstone and that the following resolutions be passed :—That the school committee?, of the larger town schools bo recommended to extent the dinner hour to at least ij hours; that the Gore School Committee be advised that the Board raises no objection to uie application for the; use of school for the Bible Class Ca-inip, provided that the -building and furniture are insured- for their full value, as determined by the architect; and that all,-damage to the property is made good, and that the premise* be left perfectly clean and in order; that the" request for -window glass at Lumsden be declined; that the Farmers' Union letter regarding. Standard VI. examinations be referred to the next meeting of the executive for consideration, in tho meantime the inspectors to prepare a statement of the reasons for tho Board's present! practice; that the application for painting at Kiversdale be declined and that the School Committee be asked to. give an estimate cost of concerting urinals and to state what assistance it will give towards work.
