MANY WOULD-BE BRIDES.

The following appeared in the 'Yorkshire Herald' on May 11 last: — Last summer in a box of apples received from Stockton Mr Samuel York, fruiterer, of Richmond, Yorkshire, found a letter from Jack Fairdeal, packer, of Geveston, Huon, Tasman ; a, asking for correspondence from a lady with a view to marriage. The letter was published in the press and Mr York wrote informing Mr Fa'rdeal that' he made the application public. Mr York has just received a reply stating that over 200 applications had received, "'nclnding photographs of nice young ladies."
