THEATRE ROYAL

A powerful dramatic, play in two parts, entitled "Her Second Choice," will be the "star" feature of to-night's new programme at the Theatre Royal. The story tells of a, widow and her child, and of two suitors for the widow's hand. Tho supporting drama:; are of exceptional merit and include a stirring military production entitled "Patriotism" (1300 feet) and "The Pointsman's' Daughter," a thrilling American drama. The comedies, "The Water Cure," "'Mixed Nuts," and a 1000 ft Keystone, production, "Won by a Skirt" will be found great laughter-makers, while a capital scenic wilt complete the prograniinie, which should prove exceedinglv popular with the Royal Standard Picture Proprietary's many patrons.

PRINCESS THEATRE

The late Tom Robertson's masterpiece of English comedy, "Caste," a play famous wherever the English language is spoken, and intimately associated with the names of Sir Squire and Lady Bancroft, will l be pictorially represented at tilie Princess Theatre this evening. Tho coaiicdy is admirably acted and beautifully staged, and should he accorded a. warm' reception. Several attractive pictures depicting a variety of interesting subjects will alst) bo screened; including a distinctly useful educational picture, "'How Waste is Avoided," three fine dramas by premier film producers, and an instalment of the "Gaumont Graphic." The comedian Max Linder will also figure to advantage in an amusing comou.v, and the whole programme will be round particularly attractive. /

HICH SCHOOL BENEFIT.

The promoters of the benefit in aid of tho sports fund of the Gore High School winch was held at the Princess Theatre, last night must have been extremely gratified at tho result of their efforts, a very largo audience being present. In addition to an excellent ■picture nrogram'm« v which, was much appreciated, a, picked squad of High School Cadets gave a particularly smart display of physical drill which aroused tho audience to enthusiasm. Tho different movements were executed with a precision which could- scarcely be excelled. A humorous lecture, illustrated by lantern slides, entitled "Historical Facts-," 'was effectively contributed by Mr Cyril Scobell, who was completely successful- in holding his' audience and putting them into high good humor. The finances; of the Sports Fund should be materially benefited as the result of last night's performance.

PUKERAU LITERARY SOCIETY,

The, Pukerau Literary Society mot on Wednesday evening. -Mr ('. Dennett presided' and there was a good attendance. The evening was occupied with a debate on t!ie question, "Should Bachelors be Taxed?" Mrs Hev took the affirmative and Mr 0. Styles the negative. Tile debate was 'both amusing and instructive, good arguments being" advanced by both parties. Other .speakers who took part in the debate were Mrs Trapski, Mif.s 'Stevens, Messrs 0. C. McDonald, A. MeLoay, V. Norton and Newman* On a vote being taken 32 supported! the affirmative and 23 the negative.
