SENSATIONAL ARREST.

MELBOURNE, July 1. A sensational arrest has been' made in connection with the Eveleigh rol>bery. A strong detachment of detectives surrounded a. cottage* in Albert Park, a residential suburb of the (metropolis. A couple. «f the detectives were forcing a. window when a) mail named Ernest Ryan appeared armed with' a revolver, and treatened to tire. The Window gave way, and the detectives knocking the revolver aside, grabbed Ryan. The other detectives forced the back door and surprised two women and a man. It is alleged that one woman, attempted to extract a. revolver fromi her pocket, but the .police secured her. The other woman tried to get at a. jug containing a. revolver. All were taken to the oolice station.
A big eiwcf watched the coup\ and the police, 'had difficulty in, forcing their way through, with their prisoners. Ryan was subsequently charged as the principal in the Evo'leigh hold-up. The polico 'believe that lie is identical with a. man who eluded the police attempt at capture at Strathfiold on June 16, and they had, ibec.n on the look-out for him for some, time. H is 'believed that he; reached Melbourne only a few hours 'before his arrest.
REMAND GRANTED
'SYDNEY, July 1. Samuel Freeman, Arthur Tathnm, and Joseph TSviss were to-day further remanded to Friday in connection with the Eveleigh Qiold-up. The police stated that, in viciw of an important development .in the case a remand was necessary. The principal had been arlested in Melbourne, and the proceed* or the bulk of the money stolen had been recovered. The baiL for Twiss and T'atham was reduced: to £500.'
Subsequently Freeman, -was committed for trial on a charge of attempting to discbarge an automatic pistol at Constable Hooper with, intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
