At the criminal sessions of iho Supreme Court to-day George Maxwell, charged with forging a cheque for £3 9s and uttering the same, was found guilty on the second count and remanded till Thursday for sentence. Edward Wilfred Jacobs, charged that, beiic'g a bankrupt, he contract-id debts without having any reasonable prospect of being able to pay the same,-and that he had failed to keep such books as would show his proper financial position, was found guilty on the second count. Sentence was deferred till Thursday. In Chambers an order for adjudication in bankruptcy was made in the ease of A. B. De Saint Roman, dairyman, the sum of £lO5 4s being involved. In Northcroft v. Hughes, a claim in connection with a patent which was to have been registered in Amtralia, an order was made for the case to be heard by special jury.
