Per Press Association. Auckland, Jan 23. A man named Murk Hpratt was found dead in a paddock at Mount Eden th’s morning. He had gone there to work and was suddenly taken ill and died in a short time. The lads James Maloney and Thomas Donnell were committed for trial at the Police Court to-day on a charge of stealing the yacht Malua, and on three other charges of larceny of property from other yachts in the harbor. Christchurch , Jan 23. On Saturday afternoon Unit’s saw mill at View Hill, together with the house and stable belonging to Plankett and a quantity of bush, was destroyed by fire. Tho township of Oxford was endangered about the samo time by a fire started in Weld’s bush. Rain coming on about 3 o’clock checked tho flames and prevented further damage. None of tho buildings destroyed woro insured.
