Silver Mining Boom at Hokitika.
(Per Press Association.) Hokitika, Jan 23. Twenty silver mining leases of 100 acres each havo been applied for at Mount Rangitoto, and there is great oxcitomcnt in the district about them. With tho 800 acres freehold belonging to the Mount Rangitoto Silver Mining Co., more are now 2800 acres silver country taken up. Mount Rangitoto is a mineral belt of country containing, amongst other ores, galena and load, tho former containing gold and both rich in silver. The last piece assayed by Professor Black contained at the rate of thirty-three ounces of gold to the ton of ore, besides silver. It is rumored that the Mt Rangitoto Silver Mining Company has been floated H 'u London. Tho reefs at Cedar Creek continue looking well, the Wibhim Tell stone maintaining its quality. The leaders now mot with at the low-level tunnel are oxpccted to make into the reef.
