Mr. H. Rollett said that at the Morrinsville sale scrim was stretched along the pens for half the width, and all the pigs were at that end of the pens. Mr. A. Clague said that, in his opinion, generally speaking, there • was more cruelty to pigs than there Was to bobby calves. Finally, it was decided to approach the other company on the matter with a view to getting uniformity of , action. BOBBY CALVES Following- a short discussion on ' proposals to reorganise the collection of bobby calves, the president said that at bedrock the question was whether the branch was in favour of the rationalisation of the bobby calf trade or not. Members expressed the opinion that the best method of dealing was by weight at the farm gate. Mr. P. K. Hawke stated that now that the dairy business was truly cooperative, he felt it should handle the. bobby calf and cull-cow business. With harmony between directors this could easily be done, and would result in the farmer getting all there was in the business. He believed farmers should rely solely on their own organisations. Mr. Gouk urged that farmers had to watch that free lances were not 5 allowed to break down the business. He favoured pools under the supervision of the Dairy Board. On the motion of Messrs. Gouk and Sutherland, ■it was decided to support a move to rationalise the bobby calf on a co-operative basis under * *pfie supervision of the Dairy Board. ,• BEVERLEY TESTIMONIAL On the motion of Messrs.
