POPULAR BANK MANAGER

WARKWORTH FAREWELLS Mr. and Mrs. E. Mclntyre One of the most representative gatherings which has ever assembled in Rodney County gathered in the Warkworth Town Hall on December 4 to say good-bye to Mr. and Mrs. E. Mclntyre. Mr. Mclntyre has been manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Warkworth’ for the past 3 h years—a comparatively short time for such a position —and the meeting was a public appreciation before he left on promotion for Matamata. Among those attending were representative men from all parts of the county. Associated with Mr. and Mrs. Mclntyre was Mrs. O’Hara, Mrs. Mclntyre’s mother. Genuine expressions of regret at her departure and best wishes for her future were voiced during the evening.

The evening commenced with dancing which was continued until the arrival of the guests of honour. At the door beautiful bouquets were presented to Mrs. Mclntyre and Mrs. O’Hara by Miss Cook and Miss Smytheman respectively, and amid loud acclamation the guests were escorted to the stage by representatives of public and sporting bodies. Dancing was then continued and a short concert programme given, following which representatives of various bodies testified to the worth of the guests of the evening. Mrs. T. Warin spoke for the Warkworth Croquet .Club and presented Mrs. Mclntyre with an album of photos of the district. Mr. Selwyn Morrison, on behalf of the Rodney Golf Club, farewelled the lady captain, and a prominent member, for both Mr. and Mrs. McIntyre have been very active and popular members of the club. On behalf of members he presented them with an electric iron.

The Rodney Returned Soldiers’ Association, through Mr. Pettard, secretary, voiced its appreciation of its president, which was lavish and genuine. He was followed by Mr. John Davies who, after speaking in support, presented Mr. Mclntyre with a case of pipes. A handsome piece of pottery was also given Mrs. Mclntyre in acknowledgment of her services in entertaining tne association visitors from time to time. The chairman of the Rodney County Council, Mr. W. K. Becroft, followed and expressed appreciation of the courteous and efficient manner in which Mr. Mclntyre had assisted the council with its finances. (Continue 1 ! in Next Column)

Mr. Leach, who was to have represented Wellsford, sent an apology. The final speech was made by Mr. L. Petherick, chairman of the Warkworth Town Board, who, on behalf of residents of the county, presented the guests with a handsome wireless set.

In replying, Mr. Mclntyre expressed confidence in the. future progress of the county, .and made appreciative reference to the various local associations with which he' had been connected, particularly the Returned Soldiers’ Association, of which he will retain the presidency until the next annual meeting.
