ANNUAL TEA Sunday School Prize-giving The annual social evening held in conjunction with the Sunday school prize-giving at the Matamata Methodist Church was held on Wednesday. The Rev. H. Daniel presided, and there was a good attendance of teachers and scholars. Tn order to ensure a fair and just

system of distribution of the prizes these are awarded in grades, 90 per cent, of marks and over being awarded first prizes, 80 per cent, and over second prizes, and 65 per cent. <# over third prizes. The winners were as follow: First-class Prizes. lan Hears, Philip Grason, Nancy Tiddy, Merle Clover and Norma Clover. Second-class Prizes. Dorothy Cook and Joyce Griffin. Third-cluss Prizes.—Eleanor Raethel, Lucy Reeve, Norman Reeve and Maurice Reeve.

All of the infants received prizes, and special prizes for good work during the year were awarded to Nancy Tiddy and Norma Clover. The superintendent of the Sunday school is Mr. H. Grason and the other teachers are Mrs. Daniel, Miss E. R. Vosper and Miss B. Judd. The junior girls Bible Class, taught by Mrs. Daniel, was in attendance, but members of this senior class do not participate in the prize-giving, but run their own finances and work to assist other institutions.

In hie review of the year Mr.; H. .Grason said that the percentage of attendances at the Sunday school was very high and the work done had been very creditable. The credit balance was £7 15s, and in view of

this fact it had been decided not to

accept the collection taken at the anniversary services which was usually devoted to the Sunday school. The prizes were distributed by Mr. J. F. Vosper, the previous superintendent.

During the evening items were giyen as follows: Recitatiop, Mr. ..Woodcock; duet, Mr. and Mrs. Marks; solo, Miss Pedersen; solo, Mr. Hazelton; items by the scholars. . A presentation was also made to Mrs. Daniel as organist and Mr. Haselton as conductor in appreciation of their efforts for the anniversary servicesi .it At the conclusion of the tea, [which was 'held in the vestry, a happy surprise was effected by Mrs. Griffin, who brought over a tray of ice blocks-for the children.
