DUSTLESS ROAD
AUCKLAND TO ROTORUA Work on Matamata Portion That a comprehensive proposal for completing the sealing of the whole of No. 18'main highway, the Auck-land-Rotorua road via Hamilton, Cambridge, Tirau and Mamaku, was under consideration, was mentioned in a report to the Matamata County Council by the engineer at the December meeting of the council. He said that the proposal was in course of preparation and the work was to be done next summer. The work entailed detailed engineering surveys for improvements to alignment and some deviations, and thus the proposals would not be completed for some months yet. It was suggested that the Main Highways Board agree to the whole length being completed by the end of next summer. The idea of the Highways Council was to have a dustless road from Auckland to Rotorua.
The engineer also stated that a similar comprehensive scheme for the No. 19 main highway—Matamata, Tirau, Putaruru, Tokoroa and Taupo—was contemplated with a view to dealing with all gaps as far south as Tokoroa before the end of the following summer.
