BROADWAY PLOTS.
MANNER OF UPKEEP.
Town Board Discussion.
The question of cutting the plots in Broadway was discussed at Monday’s meeting of the Matamata Town Board.
The chairman (Mr. W. A. Gordon) said that a difficulty arose in that the plant belonged to the Beautifying Society. He thought if the board subsidised the work to the extent of £2O a year it would be satisfactory. Mr. G. G. Bell said that he understood that the Beautifying Society would welcome the board doing the work of cutting the grass and leaving the cultivated plots to the society. The board on its part felt that the society should be relieved of this work. Mr. V. B. Forbes corroborated
this view. Mr. A. E. Wrigley suggested that two members of the board meet the society. Mr. Gordon said that Mr. Young and the clerk were deputed to get out specifications for the work of cutting, and Mr. Young had wished to insist that the supervision be done by the society. Then the question of plant arose, and it would be absurd for the board to get further mowers for the work. It had been suggested that 10s a week would cover the work. Mr. Forbes: Not a hope in the world. Mr. Bell: I think it is an absurd figure. Mr. Forbes added that he had found that the plots should be cut twice a week. If the grass was allowed to get away it was almost impossible to cut the plots with a mower. He seconded Mr. Wrigley’s suggestion. The motion was then put and carried unanimously.
