WOMEN'S DIVISION, N.Z.F.U.

QUEENSTOWN BRANCH.

The monthly meeting of the W.D. F.U. was held in the Mackenzie Hall on Saturday afternoon when Mrs D. W. Thompson presided over a good attendance. Mesdames T. Lonsdale and J. Boyds we.-e welcomed as new members. It was decided to send the usual annual donation of £5 to the Community Chest fund. Headquarters advised that the W.D.F U. was raisin? funds to make a gift of a fighter plane to the Government and it .was resolved that each member should give fid or more towards the fund. In answer to a letter from the Disabled Soldiers’ Association it was decided not to take a parcel of leather goods for sale in the district. A letter of thanks for a donation of £l-10 .was received from the Dunedin Services Club. Miss Hamilton was requested to make full enquiries regarding the Navy League. A most interesting travel talk on her recent trip to Britain was> .given by Miss E. A. Warren. While in London the speaker had visited the Tower of London where the Crown jewels were on display, Kew Gardens where the bluebells under the trees made a lovely picture. Westminster Abbey. Buckingham Palace and the changing of the guards, the Chelsea Flower show, besides other places and events of historical interest. The escorted trip through Scotland was full of interest, the chief cities and most noted places being visited. The “Queen Elizabeth” was being built at Clydebank when the party visited the ship-building yards. A vote of thanks to Miss Warren was carried by acclamation.

The competition winners for the month were: best bloom, Mrs Wilson 1. Miss Hamilton 2: jar of marmalade Mrs P. Hansen 1, Mrs A. Burns 2. The roll call resulted in a good collection of Peggy squares being brought forward for the making of a quilt. The competition next month is a miniature garden art a soup .(plate.
