ST. ANDREW'S CHURCH

ANNUAL FLEETING-

The annual meeting ,of St. Andrew’s chinch was held in the Mackenzie Hall last Tuesday evening. Eev. D. K. Boyd presided. The reports presented by the several organisations uniformally showed a year of activity, so that the review revealed one of the best periods for several years. The session and managers reported that there had been a small increase in the roll of communicant members, which considering the geography of the district and the times through which the community was passing, must be considered satisfactory. During the period there had been considerable attention given to the matter of buildings. The church at Millers Flat had been repaired and painted and arrangements made for connecting both the manse and the church with the borough drainage scheme. The committee were of the opinion that the time was ripe for a review of the buildings themselves and a recommendation to establish a building fund for church and manse was well received.

Continuing, the report stated that there had been a revision of the finances in relation to the envelopescheme. Members of the congregation had taken this up with enthusiasm and a marked increase had resulted. Mr Macdonald, .the secretary, was to be congratulated on the result. The treasurer’s statement showed that a total of £649 had passed through the books. This included £6B to missions and the cost of repairs referred to in the report. The small deficit on last year’s working account had been replaced by a reasonable balance as at June 30. The P.W.MU. had excelled themselves during the year. Jfor not only had they a good membership and worked for missions but they had acceded to the request of the managers to become responsible for the mission effort with the result that the figure readied £OB exceeding any during the past several years. In addition by sponsoring the Spring and Chrysanthemum shows they had materially assisted the local needs.

In the youth department the Sunday School under Miss B. Kerr and the Busy Bees' superintended Miss M. Gray, with their helpers had a larger attendance than formerly and had done effective work. The Young Worshippers league continued to flourish and had been extended. Later in addressing the gathering. Eev. Boyd in congratulating Jhe various organisations, said that the results must be satisfactory to all and that while the country was passing through a crisis it must not be forgotten that it was the spirit of the people that counted. He was glad to note that the interest and attendances had been maintained and this augured well for the proposed combined mission which would .be conducted by Mr Andrew Johnston next, month. He felt sure that the results of the year’st working had justified the progressive policy initiated at last annual meeting and would encourage its- continuance.

A comprehensive vote of thanks was tendered to all who. through the various organisations, had helped to make the year’s, working such a success. After the close of the meeting the ladies provided supper.
