LAKES DISTRICT ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

A meeting of tlxe council of .the Lakes District Acclimatisation Society , was held on the 18th ult. Present: Dr. W. A. Anderson (president), Messrs D. F. iSutherland, R. J. Powell, H. C. Buckham, W. James, T. D. Scott and W. Edwards. The principal business before the meeting was that of a circular from the Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs asking for recommendations for the forthcoming game season. The Department wanted to know whether the season should be shorter than hitherto as it had been suggested that Ist May was too early; also the particular species of imported and native game which may be taken or killed. The Under-secre-tary also advised that it had been decided to discontinue the supply of licenses and that each society will have to arrange for the printing and issue of its own licenses. It was resolved to make the following recommendations for an open season:—Paradise duck, one week; grey duck, Ist May to 31st July; black swan and Californian quail Ist May to 31st July; that owing to the" severe winter the season open not later than 31st May, the numbers to be taken in each case to be similar to last season and fees to be the same. Pukeki.—Owing to complaints from settlers about damage .to crops and stacks by pukeki it was decided that* a request be made for an open season of at least two weeks. ■ The same Department also forwarded a circular re explaining the different donts about loaded guns. The Northland Acclimatisation Societies Federation made a request for a copy of the rules as the Federation was drafting a set for the four Northern Societies. —The secretary to forward a copy. The Department of Internal AffaTs sent a copy of a regulation prohibiting the sale and use of bird lime.
