Arrow Tennis Club.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of members of the Arrow Tennis Club was held in the Council Chambers, Arrowtown, on Wednesday evenirg last. Present: Mr A. D. Pearce (president), Mesdarnes James Reed, Haggitt, Douglas', Lee, Misses Paterson, Allen, and Romans, Messrs B. L. Scheib, T. Mcßride, J. Dalrymple, junr., A. Murphy, D. Lee and F. J. Goomes (hon- secretary). Report and Balance Sheet..

The report stated that the past season had been a successful one in every respect. The number of players was approximately the same as in the season, and a good

spirit existed in the club, and between the club and neighbouring clubs. A tournament was run, and matches played against Queenstown and Gibbston, and these were much enjoyed by all taking part. The finances of the club are in a healthy condition owing, mainly, to the fact that practically all work in connection with the

courls had been done by volunteer labour, and also to the successful running of competitions of skill. The thanks of the club are due to those members who gave of their time, money, and labour to enable the present satisfactory financial position to be attained. It is now some years since the subscriptions were reduced to their present low level. This was done owing to the depression. The committee considered that the time was now ripe for a slight increase in subscription rates to enable the employment of paid labour for, at least, the cutting of the grass. The present funds will, it is expected, be more than exhausted when repairs, which are necessary, have been effected to the Xo. 1 court. The committee decided not to attempt this drastic overhaul before the opening of the coming season, and suggests that it bo done in the coming autumn, a temporary patching to bo done

in the meantime. Two new nets were also necessary almost immediat dy. During the past season a shelter was commenced, the frame being completed and the roof covered. The sides have still to be completed, but even as it i.s, it would fill a long-felt need in case of sudden rain, and also would serve to keep the sun off the afternoon refreshments. It was urged that the shelter be completed as soon as funds were available. The committee wished to put on record its appreciation of the helpful advice given, and the further offer of help from Mr E. Climie, of Maori Point, in connection with the proposed repairs to Xo. 1 couit. This help from a non-playing, non-interested gent Iced gentleman was highly appreciated. In conclusion, the committee urged all members to assist the incoming committee in every way that they can. The ba'ance sheet showed that the receipts tota'led £45 18s 8d (including the previous year’s, balance, of £25 7s 9d), the prinicipal items being members’ subscriptions, £8 ICs a dance, £6 13s. The expenditure amounted to £8 17s 9d, leaving a credit balance of £37 Os lid. The report and balance sheet were adopted on the motion of Mr Scheib and Mrs Haggitt. Mrs E. C. Paterson was elected a member of the club. Election of Office-bearers. The following office-bearers were elected: —President, Mr A. D. Pearce (re-elected): vice-presidents: Mrs H. Douglas, Dr Ferguson and Mr A. Eeid; joint secretaries and treasurers, Mr F. J. Goornes and Mrs James (re-elected); committee: Mesdamcis Douglas and Eeed and Miss Allen, and Messrs R. E.
