His Lordship Bishop Fitchett.

VISITS' THE DISTRICT. At -the week-end His Lordship Bishop Fitchett paid his first visit to the district since his elevation bo the bishopric. Arriving from Otago Central on Thursday, he. was accorded a formal reception at Arrowtown in the. evening. On Friday a welcome was given him by 'the congregation of St. Peter’s in the Parish Hail. His Worship the Mayor and and the Mayoress were present by invitation, as well as the Rev. W. Humble, tepreenadng the Presbyterian Church, and Adjutant Rawclifle of toe. Salvation Army. ■Speeches welcoming His .Lordship and Mrs Fibchett to Queenstown and congratulating him on his elevation to the higher office he now holds in the Anglican Church, were made toy the vicar, llev. W. W. Powell, toy the Rev. Humble, Adjutant Rauf cliffe, and His. Worship the Mayor, His Lordship acknowledged the various expressions- of welcome, congratiullatioin, and goodwill in a particularly happy -manner. He referrid .to his early association with Central Otago, nine years of his ministry being spent at Clyde. He said: he would always- treasure his memories of the great hospitality, optimism and goodfeUowiship of Ur© people of that -sunny clime. These characteristics .seemed to have teen handled, down from the pioneers, of the colourful mining days. It had occasioned him and Mrs Fitchett much pleasure to return there for a few days prior to coming on to Queenstown. This was not the first occasion on which- lie had visited Wakat-ipu and he, looked forward to his du-tieis bringing him with greater frequency to the parish in the future. An hour of pleasant social intercourse followed, during which supper was dispensed by the ladies’ committee.

On Sunday morning His Lordship administered the rite of Confirmation at Sit. Peter’s Church, when a number of candidates were presented. In the. evening he held a similar service at St. Paul’s, Arro-wtown, there being good congregations on both occasions.
