Private J .W. McLeely, second son of Mr and Mrs J .B.- McLeely of Queenstown i> reported to be dotfn with fever in France. Private McLeely enlisted from Christchurch with the !Uh remforcements. The many friends of Mr Love.ll Davis will be pleased to learn that he has now made a fair recovery from his 100.? and serious illness and was able to return to duty at Skippers on Mondav last.

On Thursday last, Mr Van Paine received the sad news of the death of his nephew, Private Frank Goodwin of Christchurch, killed in a recent engagement in France.

Mr W. Miller, manager of Coronet Peak, and his wife arrived back in the district last week. They received a warm welcome from the residents <'f Malaghans.

In a list of slightly wounded, recently published, appears the name ot I)r E. K. Edie, a late medical superintendent of the Lake County Hospital. Mr Van Paine who has so capably conducted Eichardts hotel for clovse on three years as lessee has now become the owner of this valuable hotel property, he having just concluded negotiations for its purchase from Mr Walter Searle, late of Queenstown and now of Southampton, England. Mr and Mrs Fame have proved themselves most estimaole citizens during their residence in Queenstown, so"that it may be looked upon as a distinct gain to the community that their citizenship is thus rendered permanent.

The Rev. It. H. Blair, of Leeston, Canterbury, who for some years was minister in charge of the Queenstown Presbyterian church, has received a call from the congregation of the church at Hampden.

Advice was received in Arrowlown on Thursday last that Private D. Cosgrove, of Arrow Flat, was wounded in a recent engagement in France, Private Cosgrove left- N.Z. with the 18th reinforcements.

Mr and Mrs Thos. Luckie, of Queenstown, have been advised by the Minister of Defence that their eldest son, Private J. Luckie, is being invalided to- New Zealand and is due to arrive at Auckland on the 16th inst. Private Luckie enlisted from Wellington, where he was in the employ of McLean Bros., the big bridge builders and contractors. He left New Zealand a;>out a year ago. In March last sickness necessitated his removval from the trenches in France' to England, where he was placed in Walton-onrThames Hospital, and, later, in the Military hospital at Hornchurch.

A cablegram has been received by the Defence authorities stating that Private D .T. Race, brother of Mr E. J. Race, of Queenstown, has been gassed. Young Race, who has not yet reached his twentieth birthday, made several attempts to enlist, "and eventually succeeded in leaving N.Z. with the 18th Reinforcements.

Visitors to Queenstown during the week_ have included Dr. Jas. Collins, Invercargill, Mr David E. Hansen, principal of the Technical College, Invercargill, and Mr P. Hay, one of the masters of the Waitaki Boys' High School. At the Dunedin Competition. Society's Festival which is at present being held in that city the gentleman's vocal solo competition was won by Mr Douglas N. A. Macpherson of Wyndham against six others. In awarding him first- place the judge said that Mi* MacPherson had a good natural voice, and in. "Thy Sentinel Am I" liad selected a song with a big range. "Douglas", whose contributions to local concert, programmes were so very acceptaole, will have the hearty congratulations ot his Queenstown friends on his popular win.
