MILLINERS’ DISPUTE. The 1 Conciliation Council mot yesterday to Bear a dispute between the recently formed ; milliners’ section of the Christchurch Tailoreeses’ Union and local employers. 5Er w. H. Haggar, Conciliation Commissioner, presided, and ih6 assessors were: —, For the union, Mr F. Cooke and Miss E. M’Kenzie; and for. the employers, Messrs F. Cooper, E. Hartley and H. B. Free. . The union asked for a forty-four hour week for workers;, journey women to bo paid £2 10s ft week, trimmers at table with one to three girls £3 103 per week, trimmers at table with four to six;.girls £1 per week, trimmers with seven to nine- girls £7 per week; trimfcier end buyer in country positions £1 per week. The union further asked that the proportion of apprentices should be one to one iourneywomah,; the period of apprenticeship to ba four years, three months’ probation, however, to be ahowoi to deter .'nine fitness. The following scale of wages for apprentices wa3 asked for: —First six months 12s 6d, second .six months 15s, third six months 17s 6d, fourth she months £l. fifth six months £1 £s 6d. sixth six months £1 os, seventh six months £1 10s, eighth six months £2. • After some discussion a full settlement was ,reached, the wages and conditions being identical with thoso provided for in the Dressmakers’ Award, namely :—First six months 10s 6d per week, second six months Dis’6d per week, third six months 15s, fourth eix months 17s 6d, fifth six months £l, sixth six months £1 2s 6d. seventh six months £1 '6s, eighth six months £1 10s. and thereafter £2 peri weak; payment at the rate of timo end a. half to be made for overtime: la 3d tea money when a worker is required to work overtime without (having received twenty-four hours’ notice from the employer, and one week’s notice to bo given on either aide to terminate engagement. The award will operate as from March 15. 1920, to December 31, 1921. and will thus expire at tho same time as the Dressmakers’ Award.
