SOME QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS. “ There is one question you have not answered,” said the Mayor at yesterday morning’s deputation to the Minister of Education on domestic science. “You have not told us why these bursaries' are tenable only in Dunedin. A poor man in Christchurch cannot send his daughter to Dunedin.” ‘‘l have already answered the question,” said Mr Hanan. “ No, you have not,” said Dr Thacker, “ and there is no answer. A. roan, if he is a poor man, with a brilliant daughter, must submit to penury and borrowing to send her to Dunedin ” Mr Hanan: I am afraid you have not rend tho regulations. A girl who is bright and -above the average can take a bursary and get the benefit of higher education. There are girls attending in Dunedin who aro the daughters of poor men. Th» regulations Dr Thacker: We have read the reguInt'nns, but regulations are made to be broken.
Mr C. H. Onie said that scholarships were tenable throughout New Zealand, and bursaries should be in the same potion. Mr W. Jones said that a poot tpirl 1 could not go te Dunedin on a hoarding allowance of £3O a venr. The Minister .would not exnect his own daughter to do so.
